BE is a youth volunteer, leadership, and community involvement program. Three times a year 25 youth aged 13-18 will participate in ten, two hour training sessions. This is followed up with 20 hours of volunteer or job shadow work within Little Mountain/Riley Park/Sunset community. The Child and Youth Coordinator and the Youth Programmer recruit, train, mentor, and match youth with volunteer and job shadow opportunities and provide 1 to 1 support as necessary. This program provides social and pre-employment skills training in a workplace environment; training in conflict resolution, leadership, communication, resume writing, community event planning; and hands-on volunteer experience in a professional setting with local businesses on Main/25th and Fraser/41st. This program targets a wide range of youth from 3 high schools (Tupper, Eric Hamber, and John Oliver) within the Little Mountain/Riley Park catchment area as well as a growing number of alternative programs.
